Overview

This project stemmed from a challenge: making 3D object scanning accessible without expensive LiDAR or industrial scanners. Our team developed a workflow where standard smartphone cameras capture image sets, which are then stitched using photogrammetry to reconstruct detailed 3D models.

"A clever and cost-effective solution that lowers barriers to cutting-edge technology." – Judge, MakeOhio

Key Features

  • Designed image capture pipeline adaptable to any modern smartphone.
  • Implemented photogrammetry process to convert 2D photo sets into 3D geometries.
  • Optimized reconstruction pipeline for speed and detail, leveraging open-source tools.
  • User-focused design for minimal setup and repeatable accuracy.
  • Produced low-barrier, low-cost alternative to $1,000+ hardware 3D scanners.
